Poem: Someone else’s life

Performers perform

Singers sing

Lyricists set the tone

Writing about their experiences

We listen and some part resonates

Have we been busted flat in Baton Rouge?

Have we had just one more silver dollar in our pocket?

Have we had unrequited love that has never been returned?

Have we been so lonesome we could cry?

Voyeurs into someone else’s life

Until we write our own song.
